The smell of coffee. The sound of the grind. The lifting of the spoon to taste the warm, delicious soup...Good times are happening here at The CoHo. This has always been your coffee house. We stand by you, and you stand by us. So we want to take this time to get your thoughts.

We are thinking about going green. Like really green, yet with any new trend comes the higher price tag. You may not realize, but 'tater spoons are muy expensivo (in comparison to plastics) for anyone at the moment, let alone an independent coffee house. Do you genuinely think it would bring in more business to compensate for our possible increase in spending? Would you come here more if you knew your take-out was better for the environment? Here's a lovely fact that makes my heart flutter: a biodegradable potato spoon composts in 180 days as opposed to a plastic spoon, that well, doesn't. We're also looking into corn cutlery, but our findings reveal that potato ones are more versatile. They can maintain their spoon form at up to 200 degrees F. (You could eat potato soup, hash browns, latkes, heck, a baked potato (!) all with a perhaps one of their old 'tater friends from the field. They're born together, raised together, eaten together, degrade together, enter the potato Form together...jeepers, I think my heart is melting...)

Being locally and privately owned, we do want to do our part in caring for the Earth while still being able to serve you! Being Eco-friendly is on our minds at The CoHo these days, so please share your thoughts to help us. You can either post your response or email coho@stanford.edu. Thanks for caring as we try to learn how best to care as well. Cheers!Jessicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17457210908361707045noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-317379607295455284.post-17791995440966400812008-08-07T16:19:00.000-07:002008-08-07T16:25:02.980-07:00New food at the CoHo: not your average grubReal plates, fresh sandwiches, just-baked pastries: yum.

Although I haven’t been able to sample all of the CoHo’s new cuisine, there’s definitely something to be said for the revamped menu. Eating off real plates, with real silverware, in comfy chairs…I’m already ready for a more gourmet dining experience.

Personal favorites:
Chicken salad croisssaindwich: at the cheapest sandwich at $4.95, if you’re looking for a nice sized sandwich on the go, this is your pick. The best perk, in my opinion, is the super fresh croissant that the sandwich comes on. The chicken salad is standard without any weird surprises, but surprisingly good. Pick up some chips if you don’t think it’ll be enough to satisfy you. Salt and Vinegar are my fave....but they're only for the adventurous.

Ham/Mozzarella Panini: The mozzarella is much much nicer than your standard American processed cheese, and the panini’s come with a fresh garden salad tossed in a vinaigrette on the side so that you feel like you’re getting some greens, which I appreciate.

Chai lattes: personally, I can’t get enough of them. Uses Oregon Chai mix (same as Peet’s coffee/other major coffee houses) and you can choose either non-fat or whole milk. Go for the non-fat if you want it a little spicier. Also, note the Clover Organic Milk you're getting. Nice.

Pastries: you may gawk initially at the relatively high price of the pastries (around 3.00), but don’t be fooled. I’ve now tasted five different kinds, and have not been disappointed. Having just come back from a quarter abroad in Paris with a daily intake of 2 pastries/day, I had high expectations. They’re fresh, clean, baked daily on site, and there’s a wonderful variety that changes every day. Favorites so far: cheesecake tart and their infamous chocolate cake. Don't miss 'em.

more reviews coming soon...!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-317379607295455284.post-11369635478587697662008-07-18T10:06:00.001-07:002008-07-18T10:21:26.232-07:00CoHo 80s NightThis past Wednesday at the CoHo, we had 80s night. We look forward to more innovative programming in the near future.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-317379607295455284.post-81411478569295912422008-07-11T13:11:00.000-07:002008-07-11T13:14:22.100-07:00CoHo StickersNext time you're in the CoHo, pick up a nifty sticker and say hi to Stephanie while you're there.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-317379607295455284.post-31512834858957230592008-07-03T10:08:00.000-07:002008-07-24T15:37:24.436-07:00The Coho is Back - Articles from Stanford WeeklyThank you Stanford Weekly for writing wonderful articles about the reopening of the CoHo! I've been a CoHo believer from the beginning and throughout this last year in its absence. Tonight is special - it's the first night the CoHo - the REAL genuine CoHo - is back! and what better way to celebrate than with an innaugaral jazz jam session. The house band is all Stanford grads - Jake Smolowe, Mitchell Wilcox, and Gabe Davis (aka The Jazz Party) - all successful musicians now in the bay area.

Now, once I had taken care of the first order of business - that is, ordering my first CoHo chai latte in over a year - I sat down and over the course of an hour watched as people starting filling the many new comfy chairs. The first night the CoHo is open, it is packed. I can't wait to see it during the academic year.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-317379607295455284.post-44884801565168718792008-06-18T15:59:00.001-07:002008-06-18T16:00:03.142-07:00Welcome back to the CoHo!After a year of dark windows, administrative decisions, and student petitions, the much beloved Stanford Coffee House is now back and better than ever!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
